President’s Message

                    Mrs. Donna L. Newsome

Greetings to all and welcome to our website! As president of Phi Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated I consider it a privilege to lead and an honor to serve.   Therefore, I am looking forward to an exciting administration filled with the joys of engaging with my community and strengthening the bonds of sisterhood within the chapter. These bonds of sisterhood began for me as a member of the “Sweet” Mu Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha at Spelman College. Today, I cherish those memories as they energize me to lead Phi Sigma Omega Chapter on a mission to positively impact the parishes of St. John, St. James, Ascension, and West Baton Rouge.

Phi Sigma Omega is actively engaged in a variety of projects that align with our national organization. No task is too small or too big for us. The members of Phi Sigma Omega are phenomenal women who have been committed to improving the quality of life in the River Parishes since 2000. We are a sisterhood of service.

We have taken a pledge to serve others, promote academic excellence, and maintain the highest level of integrity.  To that end, our desire is to make a positive impression wherever and whenever we publicly interact with the community.  As the chapter’s leader, it is my mission to ensure that the PSO shades of pink and green are viewed as positive and progressive pastels in our local area.

In addition, we give to others, we help when needed, and we pray always that our efforts rekindle the old benevolent spirit that moved our communities forward.  These are bold tasks, but they must continue in order to advance the spirit of our founders.

Following the current leadership of International President Dorothy Buckanan Wilson, PSO embraces “Launching New Dimensions of Service.” From awarding college scholarships, supporting first responders, sponsoring health forums, preserving our planet, and conducting etiquette classes, our chapter Provides Service to Others.  That’s the PSO way!
